On January 18, 2015, thousands of people participated in the Carlsbad Marathon. This marathon runs along the coast, starting at Plaza Camino Real and heading south all the way to the Batiquitos Lagoon, where it loops back around to the beginning. The marathon is sponsored by Tri-City Medical Center, and is six hours long. Around 10,000 runners come from around the world each year, as this marathon is one of Carlsbad’s most popular.
The marathon is divided into a full marathon and a half marathon. As can be seen on the map, the half marathon ends at Breakwater Road and begins at the same place as the full marathon. A full marathon is 26 miles while the half marathon is 13 miles. Additionally, there is a Kids Marathon Mile at Legoland for children under fourteen years of age for the little ones who are interested in running as well.
The best part of this event is that all proceedings are donated to charities such as Donate Life, Heart for Africa, San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation, and many others. By registering in this marathon, you are not only improving your health but also helping a person in need. If you are looking for a way to help out without running next year, the Carlsbad Marathon requires around 2,000 volunteers to support the people entered in the marathon. No experience is required, and there is a wide variety of job choices to chose from. Either way, everyone has an opportunity to help, whether it’s donating or volunteering.
