Huge congratulations to Coach Benson and the JV team for their first victory of the spring season with a 2-0 win against El Camino. Their schedule is currently unavailable so hang tight for more updates!
Pitching has remained a lingering wound so far for the Varsity team as they have began the spring 2-3. On March 5th at Mt. Carmel, they were shut out and surrendered 11 runs in the opener. Four days later, the took on the San Dieguito Mustangs in Encinitas, but fell again 5-2 as they surrendered three runs in an inning that pushed the Mustangs in a commanding lead. On the 10th, they took down Orange Glen 4-0 in a stellar pitching performance by David Rudolph who threw a complete game, 1 hit shutout! After that triumphant win, they took down Murrieta Mesa 7-3 on the 12th, before falling 11-0 on the 15th against Great Oak. Varsity, in its first year, has a lot of work ahead to slim down their 6.69 team e.r.a. and boost up their .400 winning percentage.
Freshman
The Bobcat freshman team is on a roll to kick off the season as they currently stand 4-1 in their overall record. They defeated Serra 11-4 in their home opener on March 3rd and then proceeded to shutout Mt. Carmel and San Dieguito by scores of 1-0 and 2-0 on the 5th and 8th in two road games. After a semi-dormant offense in those games, the Bobcats came roaring back on the 12th in a 9-4 victory against Murrieta Mesa on the road. Unfortunately Great Oak High broke their four game streak with a 6-2 win yesterday, however, Coach Sabala and the ballplayers can not be too disappointed seeing that they have outscored opponents 25 runs to 14 runs. With a 3.60 team e.r.a and a run average of 1.4 runs per inning, things are looking very bright! JV Unlike the freshman team, the JV team is off to a slower start as they have lost two of their first five games. After fighting off Mt. Carmel 2-1 in their opening win, they fell 6-2 on the 8th against San Dieguito. Then, on the 10th at Fallbrook, they exploded in an 18-4 blowout where almost all 16 players had a hit. Sadly, Murrieta Mesa's JV team -just two days later- came with slugging machines for bats as they defeated Sage Creek 17-7. The Bobcats came back with positive energy against Great Oak on the 15th, but fell just a run short, as they were beaten 6-5 on the road. Their next game is against Classical Academy on the 21st.
