Late Friday night, France was forced to close all borders following a terrorist attack in Paris that resulted in the deaths of dozens and the capture of almost 100 more people. In addition to gunfire, explosives were also set off at France's national stadium, the Stade de France, during a soccer game between France and Germany. Later that night, the French security forces attempted to storm the Bataclan concert hall to free the hostages taken by the terrorists, while multitudes of ambulances arrived at the scene prepared to transfer any released wounded to the hospital.
French president Francois Hollande addressed France in a national TV address, stating that "'There have been dozens of deaths, there are many injured, it's a horror" (USA Today). He also added that the French military was being deployed around France in an effort to combat the terrorists. Finally, President Hollande maintained that "'the terrorists want to scare us and instill fear . . . there are reasons to be afraid, but the nation knows how to defend itself and mobilize its forces and how to defeat the terrorists.'"
France's resilience in the aftermath of this horrible tragedy is inspiring for all who face extreme opposition such as terrorism. Many, including President Barack Obama, have expressed their condolences to the recovering nation.
