Q: What’s your favorite part about being in Key Club?
A: My favorite part about being in Key Club is the experiences I get out of it. I don't find volunteering as a chore, job, or requirement. Volunteering, to me, is always a rewarding experience. I also get to spend quality time with people to help benefit a great cause and have fun along the way.
Q: Does your club participate in any activities outside the classroom?
A: My club participates in many activities outside of school. Our community service comes in many different forms. We volunteered at numerous races and community events. On Valentine's Day, we visited a senior center and hosted an ice cream party. We also created a campaign called #schsspreadlove where we participated in spreading kindness to show people that we care. Helping out at the senior center was part of that campaign. We also hosted a canned food drive at Calavera Hills Elementary to feed homeless children in San Diego. The program we donated cans to was "Got Your Back San Diego" and they were truly impressed by our drive. We raised over 400 cans and were recognized as the biggest food drive GYBSD has ever seen. Pretty awesome, right? To reward the kids for bringing in the cans, we hosted (another) ice cream party.
Q: How might this club help you career?
A: This club inspired me to be a better person and give back. Sometimes getting busy with all the of things on in my life, I never stopped to think about what others were going through. Key Club gave me a new outlook on how I could go about my life. This club provided me the skill set, knowledge, leadership, and organization skills that will deem very necessary to me in the future. Also, Key Club is a great addition to any college application. It represents who you are as a person.
Q: When are your meetings?
A: Our meetings are on Tuesdays in Mrs. Bachman's classroom at lunch.
Q: What’s the average agenda like for meetings?
A: Our meetings typically discuss new opportunities Key Clubbers can participate in. The meetings are purely informational because most of the service opportunities are done outside of school. Any club business is also discussed in those meetings.
Q: Are there any future goals or plans for the club?
A: A future goal for this club is to host a large event for students to participate in to raise money and awareness for any charity or campaign. As Key Clubbers, we aim for the goal of having 50 community service hours in total for the entire year. We have passed the half way mark so far so we are almost there!
Q: What kind of student would you recommend joining your club?
A: Any student is welcome! If you are looking for community service, this is the club to join. We are looking for hard workers who are dedicated and willing to give back. Key Club is extremely flexible and has plenty of opportunities on hand so you won't miss out.
