President: Ethan Mickelson
Advisor: Mrs. Alberts
We interviewed Ethan to get some insight as to what the Speech and Debate Club is like at Sage!
Q: What’s your favorite part about being in Speech & Debate?
A: “My favorite part so far has been getting to know most of the other club members. They are a great group of kids to start a club with and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together.”
Q: Does your club participate in any activities outside the classroom?
A: “We try to participate in all school events such as the Hoopcoming parade, Freeze Hunger, and other community service jobs. In the future we will be competing in regional Speech and Debate tournaments.”
Q: How might this club help you career?
A: “The skills that are developed in this club will help with anything you do in life. It will give you confidence, the ability to argue effectively, and good public-speaking skills.”
Q: When are your meetings?
A: “We meet once a week on Tuesdays at lunch.”
Q: What’s the average agenda like for meetings?
A: “These past few weeks we have been designing and constructing a float for Hoopcoming. Normally, we would learn the basics of a good speech and put those skills into effect. In the future, we plan to learn about different speech and debate events that we will be participating in.”
Q: Are there any future goals or plans for the club?
A: “In the future we would like to extend Speech & Debate into an actual class you can take for credit at Sage Creek. We also hope to compete in Speech & Debate tournaments next year.”
Q: What kind of student would you recommend joining your club?
A: “Anyone can join, this is a learning experience that benefits all students.”
So if you’re interested in expanding your knowledge of writing and fine-tuning your skills for public speaking, sounds like Speech & Debate is the club for you! You’ll have the opportunity for a new learning outlet as well as meet great new people.
